Three CCA Envision Cinema students are honorable mention winners in the national C-SPAN 2013 StudentCam competition. Ari Moutal, Blake Finley, and Emily Wong submitted their Advanced Video/Film project "Bullying: A Threat to Our Nation" (click the title to watch the video) to the competition and were notified they won last Wednesday. C-SPAN brought it's bus to campus to honor the students. They were also recognized by representatives from Senator Block's office and Assemblyman Maienschein.

A new documentary in the works from Envision Cinema Conservatory received some local news coverage. So Broke It Hurts is a documentary about a homeless man in our community. It's official premiere will be on Friday, May 17th at the CCA Film Festival.

Fractured, a 2012 Canyon Crest Academy Envision Cinema Conservatory film, is one of four short films selected to screen in the Best Short or Web Video category at the International Skateboard Film Festival. The festival is open to veteran and new filmmakers, and it is held December 6th-7th in downtown Los Angeles at the Downtown Independent Theater. The film was produced in the spring of 2012 by CCA students Blake Johnston, Jesse Ostroff, and Jason Segal as part of the Envision Cinema Conservatory program. Students from all San Dieguito Union High School District schools are invited to compete in CCA's annual 48-hour film competition, MiniCine Fest. The competition is the weekend of October 12th-14th. Forms and registration fees are due to CCA room G201 on October 3rd or 4th between 10am-5pm. The MiniCine Fest show is October 27th at 6pm. Envision Cinema Conservatory's 2012 film Erasing the Lines is a finalist in the Interlochen Center for the Arts Future of Cinema Film Festival (FOCFF) in Interlochen, Michigan. The film was produced by CCA students Alex Powell, Jennifer Smart, Adelyn Chan, and Richard Liu in the spring of 2012. FOCFF is for the high school film maker seeking a global community of other passionate, driven high school students in cinema -- a dedicated showcase of new filmmakers' talent. The fifth annual Future of Cinema Film Festival, November 1-3, 2012, will screen the best national and international work of high school students.
Exhibiting student filmmakers receive a $500 scholarship to the Motion Picture Arts summer program at Interlochen Arts Camp for summer 2013, and each category winner additionally receives an iPod touch and a $2000 scholarship to the same camp. The Best of Fest winner walks away with a MacBook Pro as well as one half-tuition scholarship to Interlochen Arts Academy boarding high school for the 2013-14 school year. The Envision Cinema Conservatory film Binary has been selected to be part of the 5th Annual Imagine Science Film Festival in New York (November 8 - 16, 2012). The film was produced by CCA students Hunter Peterson, Alex Powell, Alvin Lin, and Blake Johnston. The film was also screened at the 2012 LA Film Festival this past summer. The 2012 Imagine Science Film Committee will feature the largest selection of science films to date.
As one of the leading organizations that promotes science in film, the 5th Annual Imagine Science Film Festival will also feature special events and programs to help spark the public's excitement about science. The film, Quotient, is one of six finalists for the 2012 Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition. Powell will attend the event on October 17th at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills where they will screen the videos and announce the winners. CCA Envision Cinema won five awards out of six video nominations, including the top recognition award for high school video at the 2012 San Diego County Board of Education K-12 Innovative Video in Education awards at the San Diego Civic Theater. CCA also brought home three video cameras and a check for $500. There were 400 entries county-wide.
